The Concept of Time

Time is a very complex topic to discuss, but I would like to begin this discussion by saying that time exists in many different states. In some cases, time exhibits linear characteristics, in others time can be non-linear, and in other cases, it just “is” – there is no time (which some would interpret as meaning that all time exists at the same time). The reality is far more complex, which is why an entire Construct was devoted to describing time and all of the rules that would apply to it.

When elements first began to be formed during early creation, it was noticed that some of these physical elements (as we know them now) began to degrade, or turn into other structures. The elements decomposed due to instability (we now know this to be radioactive decay). There was a desire to understand this decomposition, and to try to determine how often it occurred. This was the initial impetus for developing the concept of Linear Time.

Time exists independent of space, and can exist independent of the Physical. Linear Time can pass at different rates, depending on many different factors and situations. Time can appear to be relative – how it is experienced may depend on the vantage point from where it is viewed. The Libraries of the Central Sun exist without regard to time, even though many of the records that are maintained there are of events that occur in the context of Linear Time. When a Librarian seeks to query the information, it must be done without reference to time – in essence, the Librarian must exist independent of Time in order to exist there.

There is one “problem” with all of this that many people do not consider. Linear Time, and to a degree Non-Linear Time, must have a reference point – a point where the coordinates are known. Every being that begins an existence in Linear Time exists from the perspective of a reference point. For humans on Terra, that reference point is generally associated with their birth. All that came before this point is history, it happened and they can determine what it was because of records kept with respect to that reference point. By moving from Linear Time to an area of independent Time – where Linear Time (and Non-Linear Time) does not exist, you will lose access to that reference point. You will be able to see events that occur in Linear Time, but you may not be able to know when those events occur. As an example, I can see that an event has occurred, and in some cases will occur, and I can see that the time interval, either until the event will occur (or when the event occurred in the past) is 30 days. But because I no longer have an anchor to a reference point, I am unable to to tell you 30 minutes from when.

My intent is not to provide a full explanation of Time, nor is it my intent to describe all of the different parameters of time in all dimensions. My intent is to help people understand that time is incredibly complex, and not well understood. If people are interested in knowing more, please ask your questions, and I will try to provide a coherent answer, given the limitations of the languages of the existence we currently reside in.

Finally, there is one rule with respect to Time that may not be disregarded: Linear and Non-Linear Time are absolute and must be adhered to. What this means is that no soul that resides or exists within the Construct of Linear or Non-Linear Time may travel through Time, either forward or backward. This rule exists in order to ensure the sanctity of the Time Construct, as well as existence.
